The Mahabharata is one of the two most important ancient epics of India, The Mahabharata was compiled in Ancient India. One of the Indian sages (rishi) named Vyasa is believed to have composed the work. It narrates the struggle between two families of a cousin. i.e  Pandavas and Kauravas. Kurukshetra War, the battle for the throne of Hastinapura.  A total of ninety-four episodes in the Hindi series had its original run from 2 October 1988 to 24 June 1990 on DD National. It was produced by B. R. Chopra and directed by his son, Ravi Chopra.

The music was composed by Raj Kamal. The script was written by the Urdu poet Rahi Masoom Raza, based on the originals Costumes for the series were provided by Maganlal Dresswala. The title song was sung by singer Mahendra Kapoor.
